Sacramenia
Village
Sacramenia is a town in the province of Segovia, at the far north of Castile and León, with about 324 inhabitants over an area of 44.48 km² that belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Fuentidueña and includes the depopulated places of Aldea Falcón, Granja de Santa Ana, Granja de San Juan and San Bernardo. Its climate, summed up in the local saying “nine months of winter and three of hell,” has long, cold winters and short summers. In its territory there is monastic activity documented since the 10th century, such as the 937 donation of the monastery of Santa María de Cárdaba to San Pedro de Arlanza. There is also the monastery of Santa María la Real, whose cloister was sold in 1925 to William Randolph Hearst and is today exhibited in Florida as the Spanish Monastery of Sacramenia.
