Calabazas de Fuentidueña
Village
Calabazas de Fuentidueña is a hamlet in the province of Segovia, in the judicial district of Cuéllar, with 23 inhabitants. It is first recorded on 14 September 1247 as Calabaças in the revenue distribution plan of the cathedral chapter of Segovia; its name may be due to a crop or to the origin of its first settlers, who came from Calabazanos, in Palencia. Located at the northern edge of the province, it has a continentalized Mediterranean climate, with long, cold winters, summed up in the saying Nueve meses de invierno y tres de infierno; winter temperature inversions cause persistent fog toward Vivar de Fuentidueña. It preserves the church of the Asunción, the ermita de San Roque and traditional wine cellars dug near the village.
