Valdevacas de Montejo
Village
Valdevacas de Montejo is a hamlet in Segovia of 29 inhabitants, in the community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, next to the nature reserve of the Hoces del Río Riaza. Its name means Valley of Cows and, having fewer than a hundred inhabitants, it is governed by open council. Its parish church of San Cristóbal, in Baroque style, holds a Romanesque baptismal font, Neoclassical altarpieces and several paintings by the Master of Maello. It also preserves the medieval Fuente del Cierzo spring, an old washhouse, underground cellars and the ruined Romanesque hermitage of El Casuar. Every 15 June it celebrates El Pedrisco, or Day of the Vow, in memory of a great hailstorm, and its cuisine is noted for chicken in chilindrón sauce.
