San Pedro de Gaíllos
Village
San Pedro de Gaíllos is a municipality in the province of Segovia, part of the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, with about 315 inhabitants who live almost entirely in the main settlement, while Rebollar and about a dozen old hamlets in the municipal area are today practically uninhabited. Its name comes from Foz de Gafiellos, already documented at the end of the 12th century, where «foz» refers to the tool or to the bend of a river and «Gafiellos» has an uncertain origin, perhaps Arabic or Basque. It preserves a Romanesque church and the paloteo museum, an interpretation centre for local folklore opened in 2009; it has held the Planeta Folk festival since 2006 and keeps up the tradition of the Lunes de Naranjas, when the village's children are given gifts.
