What to see and do in Valleruela de Pedraza

Valleruela de Pedraza
Village
Valleruela de Pedraza is a settlement of about 61 inhabitants of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Pedraza, in Segovia, which also includes the settlements of Berzal and Tejadilla; two other former settlements in the territory, Tejadilla de Arriba and La Anduela, were depopulated in the 19th century. Recorded in 1247 as Vallarivela, it took its current name in the 16th century, with the suffix “de Pedraza” added later because of its belonging to that community. It preserves the Romanesque church of San Cristóbal and an old forge. On 9 September a popular pilgrimage accompanies the Virgen del Amparo from the church to her hermitage, on the outskirts of the village, and on Corpus Christi the image returns from the hermitage to the church along the reverse route.
Church of San Cristóbal de Valleruela
Monument
A Romanesque parish church dedicated to San Cristóbal, the village's patron, whose feast is held on 10 July; on the outskirts stands the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Amparo and in the village centre an old forge is preserved.
Pilgrimage of la Virgen del Amparo
Activity
On 9 September the image of the Virgen del Amparo goes in pilgrimage from the church to its hermitage, and returns to the parish church at Corpus; the municipality brings together the settlements of Valleruela, Berzal and Tejadilla.
