Rábano
Village
Rábano is a village in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, in the province of Valladolid, situated beside the river Duratón. Its origins go back to the 10th and 11th centuries, linked to the lands organised around Peñafiel; in the mid-19th century it reached 345 inhabitants, compared to the current 169. It preserves the Puente Viejo, the threshing floors beside the river, several springs, the church of Santo Tomás and numerous wine cellars, protected since 2003 by the Ribera del Duero designation of origin. Its economy combines grain, sugar beet and vines with livestock farming. It celebrates San Roque on 16 August and Santo Tomás on 21 December.

Nature
Madoz placed the village on the right bank of the Duratón, shortly before its meeting with the Duero. Its 27.75 square kilometres at 777 metres combine vineyard, cereal and the slopes that fall towards the river.

Food and drink
The municipality was incorporated in 2003 into the Ribera del Duero designation of origin, which gave an outlet to a vineyard that until then had lived alongside wheat and barley in a municipal district of a mostly retired population.
