Laguna de Contreras
Village
Laguna de Contreras, in the northeast of the province of Segovia, next to the border with Valladolid, comprises the town that gives it its name and the hamlet of Vivar de Fuentidueña, a minor local entity since 1964. Across its 19.29 km², meadows and uplands such as la Parrilla or el Monte alternate, crossed by the Duratón river and the streams of la Vega, la Hoz and Turrubiel, with black poplars, white poplars and willows on their banks and holm oaks, Pyrenean oaks and juniper trees on the slopes. The climate, continentalized Mediterranean, brings long, cold winters, with frequent fog and frost, and short, hot summers with little rain. Its just over a hundred inhabitants live from cereal farming and from livestock farming that is today exclusively sheep.
