Aldeasoña
Village
Aldeasoña is a Segovian settlement of about 61 inhabitants and 18.62 square kilometres, located at the northern edge of the province. It is documented since 1247 as Aldea Sonna, in the revenue distribution plan of the cathedral chapter of Segovia; the personal name Sonna is of Gothic origin. The municipal area is a barren plateau (páramo) at about 900 metres of altitude, crossed from southwest to northeast by the arroyo de La Hoz and its tributaries, fed by the Páramo de Cuéllar aquifer. Its greatest natural asset is the gallery forest of that stream, and local livestock farming today consists exclusively of churra sheep. Between 1970 and 1990, drought and the extraction of water from the aquifer for growing sugar beet had a very negative impact on the municipality's water resources, from which it has not recovered.
