Ribota
Village
Ribota is a village of 40 inhabitants in the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Ayllón, province of Segovia, which also includes the settlement of Aldealázaro, incorporated between 1850 and 1857. Crossed by the Riaza river and situated next to the N-111, it belonged to the Sexmo de Saldaña; in the mid-19th century Madoz counted only 78 inhabitants there. Notable is the church, reddish in color from its stone and adobe, dedicated to San Juan Bautista Degollado, which preserves a 16th-century baptismal font and several Renaissance altarpieces. In the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua, small and made of adobe, a Romanesque carving of the Virgin is venerated. The patronal festival is celebrated on the third weekend of May and that of September.
