Aldeanueva del Codonal
Village
Aldeanueva del Codonal is a village in the Campiña Segoviana, founded, according to the documentation, since the mid-13th century as Aldeanueva del Codonar, on stony ground of rounded stones, the codones that threshers used to strike flakes for their trillos. Its economy combines livestock farming with the cultivation of vines and cereals. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built of brick and rubble masonry bound with lime, holds five altarpieces. Three kilometres from the village, next to the Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental and on the banks of the Voltoya river, stands the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Pinarejo, remodelled between the 17th century and around 1800 on a smaller earlier building. It has around 105 inhabitants.
