What to see and do in San Cristóbal de la Vega

San Cristóbal de la Vega
Village
San Cristóbal de la Vega is a village of about 81 inhabitants in the Campiña Segoviana, situated at 865 m above sea level amid extensive grain fields, 44 km from Segovia and 8 km from Arévalo. It belonged to the sexmo de la Vega of the Community of Town and Land of Arévalo, where it is documented as Sant Christoual, and was a mandatory stop for muleteers and carters owing to its strategic position on the old cart routes, which made it an important communications hub between the north and south of Spain. After 1833 it was placed within the province of Segovia. The granite baptismal font of its church, dedicated to San Cristóbal Mártir, earned its residents the nickname pilatos, and the village also preserves its restored old forge.
