What to see and do in Aldehuela del Codonal

Aldehuela del Codonal
Village
Aldehuela del Codonal is a hamlet in the Campiña Segoviana, 46 km northwest of the capital, with barely 24 inhabitants (INE 2025) over 13.42 km² between 830 and 900 m altitude. Its name comes from codón, the rounded stone with which, together with slate and adobe, its houses were built. The río Voltoya crosses the territory, with storks, partridges and great bustards on its banks, and it is surrounded by forests of Pinus pinea and pinaster where blackberries and saffron milk caps are gathered. It grows verdejo grapes protected by the Rueda designation of origin, in addition to dry-farmed grain. It came close to half a thousand inhabitants in the mid-20th century, before the emigration of the 1960s to Madrid and Bilbao. The patronal festivities, in honour of San Roque, are held on 16 August with a procession, jotas and the traditional suckling pig.
