Rapariegos
Village
Rapariegos is a town in the Campiña Segoviana, situated at 853 metres above sea level over a municipal area of 24.52 square kilometres that belonged to the Community of Town and Land of Arévalo, within the Sexmo de la Vega; it has about 187 inhabitants, amid an accelerated population decline common to the region, which since the 1960s has pushed young people towards nearby Arévalo. In its municipal area several deserted villages remain, among them Moraleja de la Santa Cruz, abandoned at the end of the 18th century, whose church survives today as the hermitage of the Cristo de Moralejilla, the only three-naved one in the province and a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1995. It also preserves the Real Convento de la Inmaculada Concepción, run by cloistered Poor Clare nuns and built in 1270, as well as the church of San Pedro.
