Iruelos
Village
Iruelos is a hamlet in the comarca of Vitigudino and the sub-comarca of La Ramajería, in the west of Salamanca province, with a territory of barely 12.93 km², one of the smallest in the area. Its founding dates back to the medieval repopulation undertaken by Ferdinand II of León in the 12th century, within the Alfoz de Ledesma, when it was called Oriolos. In the mid-19th century it had 132 inhabitants; in 2000 it had 65, and today it barely reaches 29, a decline of more than half in two decades. The mayor receives no compensation whatsoever for the post. It preserves the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and the hermitage of the Santísima Trinidad.
