Espadaña
Village
Espadaña, in the Salamanca comarca of Vitigudino, is a municipality of about 32 inhabitants divided between Espadaña, Becerril and Pedernal. It arose in the Middle Ages, with the repopulation carried out by the Leonese kings between the 10th and 12th centuries, when it was placed within the Alfoz de Ledesma, within the Kingdom of León, under the name Spadana; with the creation of the provinces in 1833 it became part of that of Salamanca. Its population has kept shrinking in recent decades: from the 50 inhabitants it had in 2000 it fell to 34 in 2018, a decline of 32 percent. It preserves as its main building the parish church of Santa Ana.
