Sanchón de la Ribera
Village
Sanchón de la Ribera is a hamlet in Salamanca province, in the sub-comarca of La Ramajería, within Vitigudino, whose municipal territory brings together Sanchón itself and the settlement of Carrasco, incorporated around 1850. Its founding dates back to the repopulations by the Leonese kings between the 10th and 12th centuries, when it was placed within the Alfoz de Ledesma; in the mid-19th century it already had 66 inhabitants, the same figure it retains today after losing 30% of its population between 2000 and 2018. It preserves the parish church of San Cristóbal and the hermitage of El Humilladero, both examples of the popular granite architecture typical of this comarca.
