Peralejos de Arriba
Village
Peralejos de Arriba is a hamlet in the Tierra de Vitigudino, in Salamanca, whose territory also includes the estate of Gomeciego. In the 13th century it was called "Perreleios de Suso" — the upper one, as opposed to its lower neighbor — a name that in the 16th century became "Peralexos de Arriba" before settling into its current form, already documented in the 17th century. Founded during the 12th-century resettlement process of the Leonese kings, within the alfoz and archdeaconry of Ledesma, it has lost about half its population since the year 2000. It preserves the church of San Julián and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Villares, and celebrates its patronal festivals on September 21, for San Mateo. It now has 38 inhabitants.
