What to see and do in Bermellar

Bermellar
Village
Bermellar is a village of around 129 inhabitants in the comarca of Vitigudino, in the sub-comarca of El Abadengo, in the province of Salamanca, whose territory lies almost entirely within the Arribes del Duero Nature Park, where the río Huebra carves deep canyons. The name may derive from the reddish colour of the soil on which the village stands, or be related to Portuguese place names linked to the quince. In its arribes, with their broken terrain and Mediterranean and Atlantic microclimates, protected birds live such as the black stork, the golden eagle and the peregrine falcon. On these cliffs stood the pre-Roman castro of Saldañuela, of which traces still survive; rural tourism, still in its infancy, is beginning to make use of these resources.
