La Redonda
Village
La Redonda is a hamlet of around 61 inhabitants in the comarca of Vitigudino, in the sub-comarca of El Abadengo, in the province of Salamanca. Its name, common in Leonese and Portuguese toponymy, would originally have referred to some rounded feature of the landscape, such as a rock, a lagoon or a meadow. The village's founding stems from the medieval repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the 12th century, and its lordship passed from the Order of the Temple, after its dissolution in 1311 by papal order, into the hands of the bishop of Ciudad Rodrigo, on whom it depended until the abolition of lordships in the 19th century. In the mid-19th century, according to Madoz's Dictionary, the town had 310 inhabitants recorded, far more than today. Its church is dedicated to San Martín Obispo.
