What to see and do in Saldeana

Saldeana
Village
Saldeana is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the comarca of Vitigudino, within the Arribes del Duero Nature Park, with around 96 inhabitants. It sits at 677 metres above sea level, next to the granite cliffs that the río Huebra carves as it descends to 450 metres, known as the arribes of the Huebra, viewed from the mirador del Fraile y la Monja. Its origin dates back to a Vettone castro, El Castillo, which preserves a wall and a field of standing stones; legend links it to a Roman temple of Diana, Saltus Dianae, from which its name would derive. The present-day settlement stems from the medieval repopulations by the kings of León, who handed over its management to the Order of Santiago, under whose jurisdiction it remained until 1873, when it passed to the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo.
