What to see and do in Ventosa del Río Almar

Ventosa del Río Almar
Village
Ventosa del Río Almar is a village in the Tierra de Peñaranda, in the province of Salamanca, that does not reach a hundred inhabitants — 97 according to the latest census. Its name alludes to a villa buffeted by the wind, situated on the banks of the Almar river, whose name probably derives from alamar, a medieval word meaning 'poplar grove'. Repopulated by the kings of León under the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes, it owes its second name both to the river that crosses it and to the cuarto of Rialmar, the medieval demarcation of the Tierra de Alba into which it was placed. Its heraldic coat of arms was approved on 26 December 2014.

Nature
The name alludes to a place exposed to the wind, beside the river Almar; the river name itself is probably equivalent to alamar, a medieval word for «poplar grove», so that the place name describes a windy town on the bank of a river lined with poplars.
