Coca de Alba
Village
Coca de Alba is a municipality in the Salamancan comarca of Tierra de Alba, with 96 inhabitants over barely ten square kilometres, which was integrated into the Rialmar quarter of the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes. Its name refers to the place of origin of the settlers who founded it during the medieval repopulation by the kings of León, a repopulation place-naming phenomenon of Segovian origin that it shares with other towns in the area. Its closeness to the border with Castile cost it an attack and pillaging by Castilian troops in the year 1196. The Jesuit father Gaspar Astete, author of a celebrated catechism, was born in Coca de Alba.
