Pedrosillo de Alba
Village
Pedrosillo de Alba is a municipality in the Tierra de Alba, in the province of Salamanca, also made up of the village of Turra de Alba, with around 123 inhabitants. Located by the Gamo river, which rises at the pass of Villatoro in Ávila province and runs across the municipal area from east to west, it appears documented as Peidrosielo in the Middle Ages, when it was included in the cuarto de Cantalberque of the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes, within the Kingdom of León. After the Castilian plundering of 1196, King Alfonso IX of León promoted its recovery, and it is to that time that the start of the construction of its church of San Pedro is dated. In the early 20th century many people from Pedrosillo emigrated to the United States, and by the middle of the last century the destination had become Salamanca, the Basque Country, Madrid, Switzerland and Germany.
