Aldeaseca de Alba
Village
Aldeaseca de Alba is a municipality in the Tierra de Alba comarca, in the province of Salamanca, with barely 65 inhabitants. It sits on flat land dotted with knolls and hills, dominated by the hill of San Juan, 904 metres high. Its founding dates back to the resettlement carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages; already in the 13th century it is documented as Aldeaseca, a name common in the Salamanca area, which it shares with Aldeaseca de Armuña and Aldeaseca de la Frontera. Its economy is based on cereals and fodder crops and on raising cattle, pigs and sheep. In the 16th century it built its church of San Andrés on an earlier Romanesque-Mudejar temple, topped by a bell gable and with a rococo altarpiece. It honours its patron on 30 November and blesses the mountain gorges on the day of San Blas.
