Montejo
Village
Montejo is a municipality of around 185 inhabitants in the Guijuelo comarca, Salvatierra sub-comarca, province of Salamanca, with a landscape of hills and plains beside the Santa Teresa reservoir, which dams the waters of the Tormes river. The municipal area includes, among its two settlements, that of the Santa Teresa reservoir itself. It was founded as Montexo during the resettlement of King Alfonso IX of León, within the alfoz of Salvatierra, and in the mid-19th century it had a census of 344 residents, almost double today's figure. As a place of interest, one can visit the fountain of the Rodríguez-Laso brothers, from 1799, popularly known as El Caño.
