What to see and do in La Tala

La Tala
Village
La Tala, in the comarca of Guijuelo and the sub-comarca of Alto Tormes, province of Salamanca, has 77 inhabitants in a little over twelve square kilometres. It formerly belonged to the comarca of Salvatierra, from which it is now separated by the Santa Teresa reservoir. It was resettled by Alfonso IX of León in the early 13th century and was included in the alfoz of Salvatierra, within the Kingdom of León; part of its territory, around the now depopulated Horcajo, belonged instead to the Community of Town and Land of Ávila. After the reservoir was built in the 1960s, the municipality was left isolated, poorly connected by road and without train or bus service, 18 km from the Ruta de la Plata at Guijuelo.

Historical milestone
The foundation of the place is due to the resettlement by Alfonso IX of León at the beginning of the thirteenth century, when it was included in the alfoz of Salvatierra and in the bishopric of Salamanca, within the Kingdom of León.

Curiosity
Part of the municipal district, around the now deserted settlement of Horcajo, belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra of Ávila and to its archpriestship of Bonilla or La Serrezuela, while the rest was Leonese: two kingdoms and two bishoprics in a single municipality.
