Aldeavieja de Tormes
Village
Aldeavieja de Tormes is a municipality in the Guijuelo comarca, in the Salvatierra sub-comarca, located on the banks of the Santa Teresa reservoir among hills and knolls of the foothills of the Sistema Central; to the west rises La Zampa, the highest point of the municipal area at 985 metres. A kilometre from the village stands the dolmen of El Teriñuelo, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), evidence of the area's earliest prehistoric settlers. The town was resettled by Alfonso IX within the alfoz of Salvatierra, in the former Kingdom of León, and was attached to the municipality of Guijuelo between 1974 and 1982, the year it regained its independence. It now has around a hundred inhabitants, compared with the 313 it had in the mid-19th century.
