What to see and do in Fresnedoso

Fresnedoso
Village
Fresnedoso, in the Salamancan comarca of the Sierra de Béjar, brings together 94 inhabitants in a single settlement of barely eight square kilometres, 11 km from Béjar. Its church of San Antonio Abad stands about 300 metres from the village, with the bell tower some twenty metres apart from the church itself, a feature that earned its inhabitants the nickname of "the skilled ones," also linked to their reputation as stonemasons: for centuries they quarried and cut granite that, according to the oldest residents, was sent to Salamanca to pave its Plaza Mayor. It belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Béjar from 1209. A kilometre from the village, alongside the Vía de la Plata, the so-called ventorro de Fresnedoso is preserved, a former staging post for the mail service and stables, later turned into roadside hotels.
The church of San Antonio Abad
Monument
The parish church stands some three hundred metres from the village, at the start of the slope, with the bell tower some twenty metres away from the building and the cemetery adjoining it; in the village there is also a chapel used in winter as it is easier to heat.
