What to see and do in Sorihuela

Sorihuela
Village
Sorihuela is a municipality of about 255 inhabitants in the comarca of the Sierra de Béjar, in the province of Salamanca, which may have been founded in the second half of the 12th century by settlers from Soria, since its name has been read as "little Soria". The whole of the Sierra de Béjar east of the old Ruta de la Plata was assigned to the Kingdom of Castile in the division made by Alfonso VII of León in 1157, and thus Sorihuela remained on the Castilian side. Until 1211 it belonged to the Community of Town and Land of Ávila, the year in which Alfonso VIII separated it to form the new community of town and land of Béjar. Its terrain reaches 1,358 metres at the Concejiles peak, while the village itself stands at 993 metres.
Little Soria and the Navas de Tolosa
Historical milestone
One theory reads the place name as "little Soria", after the origin of its settlers. People from Sorihuela, together with those from Béjar, Candelario and Sanchotello, formed part of the retinues of the bishop of Plasencia at Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212.
