What to see and do in Nava de Béjar

Nava de Béjar
Village
Nava de Béjar is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the Sierra de Béjar, with 74 inhabitants over less than twelve square kilometres of a plateau that rises towards the southwest. Founded during the medieval repopulations, it passed after the death of Alfonso VII of León to the Castilian council of Ávila, and in 1209 it joined the newly created Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Béjar. When Béjar passed into the hands of the Zúñiga family in 1396, the Béjar community lost its vote in the Cortes and came under Salamanca from 1425, with Nava de Béjar remaining part of the Kingdom of León until 1833. Between 1974 and 1982 it was merged into Guijuelo, later regaining its independence. It retains the church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán.
The recovered independence
Historical milestone
Between 1974 and 1982 the municipality was attached to Guijuelo. In 1982, after a long administrative process driven by the determination of its residents, Nava de Béjar recovered its own council, which today administers fewer than eighty inhabitants.
