What to see and do in Navacarros

Navacarros
Village
Navacarros is a municipality of about 140 inhabitants in the Sierra de Béjar, province of Salamanca, formed together with the hamlet of Vistahermosa, with altitudes ranging between 1,040 and 2,364 metres and land that reaches the La Covatilla ski resort. It occupies the area the Romans called Pagus Deobriga, linked by a branch road to the Vía de la Plata, the route that joined Asturica Augusta with Augusta Emerita; at that time its inhabitants engaged in pig farming, smallholder agriculture and silver extraction. Celts had already settled there earlier, and until the 13th century Christians, Jews, Arabs and Mozarabs lived there together, until the village became part of the town of Béjar. Its inhabitants lived off irrigated smallholdings and, later, off the Béjar textile industry.
The church of the Galician stonemasons
Monument
The parish church was rebuilt around 1644, using the layout and materials of an older one; the works were contracted with the Galician stonemasons Juan and Pedro Portela and with the master carpenter Antonio Cacho, a resident of Valdesangil.
