What to see and do in Vallejera de Riofrío

Vallejera de Riofrío
Village
Vallejera de Riofrío is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the Sierra de Béjar, formed by the village and the settlement of El Puerto, with 67 inhabitants over 7.26 square kilometres; at 1,240 metres of altitude, it is the second-highest municipality in the province after La Hoya. The Vallejera mountain pass, at 1,200 metres, crosses its municipal area, and its forests of oaks, pines, chestnuts and ash trees extend between the 1,523 metres of the Cabeza Gorda peak and the 1,085 metres of a stream. The town council owns the Dehesa de Vallejera, where the cattle of all the local herders used to graze, and it maintains a municipal hostel that was the village school until 1978. It lives off mountain tourism, ten kilometres from the La Covatilla ski resort, amid beech, chestnut and oak woods.
