What to see and do in La Hoya

La Hoya
Village
La Hoya is a municipality in the comarca of the Sierra de Béjar, in the province of Salamanca, belonging to the Mancomunidad Ruta de la Plata. Sitting at 1,242 metres above sea level, it is the highest municipality in the province. Its founding dates back to the medieval repopulations; after the death of Alfonso VII it passed to the council of Ávila, and in 1209, with the creation of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Béjar, it was integrated into it, a link it kept until coming under Salamanca in 1425. With only 32 inhabitants, it is one of the few municipalities in the province where the population has grown in recent decades. Its municipal area is home to the La Covatilla ski resort. It retains its church dedicated to the Espíritu Santo.
