What to see and do in Pajares de la Laguna

Pajares de la Laguna
Village
Pajares de la Laguna is a municipality in the comarca of La Armuña, in the province of Salamanca, with 110 inhabitants. Founded by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, it was placed within the quarter of Armuña in the jurisdiction of Salamanca under the name Pallares, to which the surname de la Laguna was added by royal decree in 1916, in memory of a pond that existed next to the village until the second third of the 20th century. In the mid-19th century it had 215 inhabitants, according to Pascual Madoz's Dictionary. Its medieval parish church, in Romanesque style, collapsed in 1943, and the current one was built on the same site, the work of the architect Francisco Gil y González, opened on 26 May 1946.

Nature
The municipality was called Pallares in the Middle Ages and only in 1916, by royal decree, added «de la Laguna» in allusion to a lagoon that existed beside the houses and that ended up drained in the second third of the twentieth century.
