What to see and do in Espino de la Orbada

Espino de la Orbada
Village
Espino de la Orbada is a municipality of Salamanca in the comarca of La Armuña, documented since the Middle Ages, when the kings of León placed it within the quarter of Armuña under the name Spino de Lorvada. In 1911 its mayor, Nicolás del Teso Marcos, promoted and founded here the League of Farmers and Stockbreeders of Salamanca, an agrarian trade association that defended the wheat-growing interests of the province during the 1910s and 1920s and called for local boards of tenant farmers and landowners to curb the rise in rents, an issue later taken up by the Second Republic; Espino de la Orbada was the epicentre of its activity in the comarca. It preserves the parish church of Santiago Apóstol. It has about 238 inhabitants today.
