What to see and do in El Pedroso de la Armuña

El Pedroso de la Armuña
Village
El Pedroso de la Armuña is a municipality of about 202 inhabitants in the La Armuña comarca, in the province of Salamanca, formed alongside La Ventosa; it grew up in the shelter of a spring and the Cordel de Merinas droving road, from which it took its first name, Pedroso, after being founded by the kings of León. In 1916 it adopted its current name to distinguish itself from another locality of the same name in Andalusia. The Los Quiñones lands, which occupy most of the territory and which the town council leases to its residents, were granted by their owner, Gonzalo de Ovalle, in 1532. Its church of San Pedro was built in the early 16th century with stone from an old manorial tower demolished by royal order. The festivities begin on 26 August with a parade of peñas from the town hall to the square.

Monument
In 1487 the crown ordered the demolition of the tower of Suero de Solís in the absence of agreement between the nobleman and the residents; the plot and the very stone of that tower were used to build the church of San Pedro at the beginning of the sixteenth century.

Historical milestone
Gonzalo de Ovalle, owner of the quiñones of the municipal district, handed them over to the inhabitants of the village in 1532. The settlement had grown up beside a spring and on the route of the Cordel de Merinas, the drove road that crosses these plains.
