What to see and do in Parada de Rubiales

Parada de Rubiales
Village
Parada de Rubiales is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the comarca of La Armuña, first mentioned on 17 January 1268, although its origins probably go back to the late 11th or early 12th century, within the resettlement ordered by Alfonso VI of León. It received its name from being a resting place for people and livestock beside the Cañada Vieja, next to the neighbouring settlement of Rubiales, founded by people from Galicia and completely deserted in the 16th century. Some of the stones from the deserted hamlet were used in the construction of Parada de Rubiales, and some ornaments and a 15th-century figure of Christ also come from its church. It has about 237 inhabitants today.

Monument
It brings together three quite distinct phases: a Romanesque-Mudéjar body of brick arches earlier than the fifteenth century, the stone tower of three sections and six bells added in 1575, and the Baroque extension with transept and dome made between 1675 and 1681.

Historical milestone
Rubiales, settled by people who came from Galicia, was left deserted in the sixteenth century and its municipal district was annexed to that of Parada. From its church come some of the ornaments and the fifteenth-century Christ, and with its stones houses of the village were built.
