Armenteros
Village
Armenteros is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the Tierra de Alba comarca, beneath the slopes of the Sierra de Narrillos, on the border with Ávila; the hill of Cogorrillo, the highest point of the municipality at 1,151 m, marks the southern boundary, while the flat northern half is crossed by the Revilla river. Its name is said to come from a founder called Godumer Armentero, although the municipal area holds megalithic, pre-Roman and Roman remains, among them a Roman city of unknown name next to the hamlet of Mercadillo. With around 155 inhabitants, it preserves stone houses more than four centuries old and carved granite fountains such as that of Íñigo Blasco, from 1903, with a trough and washing basins; nearby, a hoard of Roman coins was found, now kept in the Museum of Salamanca.
