Tenebrón
Village
Tenebrón is a hamlet in the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, in the sub-comarca of the Campo de Yeltes, within the plain of the Campo Charro, with 123 inhabitants, watered by the Tenebrilla river, 16 kilometers from Ciudad Rodrigo on the road to Béjar. According to popular tradition, its name recalls an ancient, large and dark forest that once covered these lands. Placed since the 12th century within the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo, in 1690 Charles II created in its favor the Marquisate of Tenebrón, whose first holder was Félix Nieto de Silva. The hamlet keeps alive traditions such as the matanza, the lunes de aguas and the día de las Águedas, and at the table hornazo, patatas meneás, cured meats and bollo maimón are still served; its local festival is San Ceferino, on August 26.
