Alba de Yeltes
Village
Alba de Yeltes is a village of about 205 inhabitants located at 788 metres of altitude, in the sub-comarca of Campo de Yeltes, within the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, province of Salamanca, watered by the río Morasverdes. Its founding dates back to the resettlement carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, and it was placed within the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo created by Fernando II of León in the 12th century, when it was called Aldeadalva. In the 17th century it became the seat of a county, when Felipe IV granted that title to Luis Nieto de Silva. Its church of the Asunción preserves the north portal from the end of the 15th century and a fluted granite baptismal font that may date from the 16th century. Its patronal fiestas are celebrated on 2 October, the day of the Santos Ángeles Custodios (Holy Guardian Angels).
