Aldehuela de Yeltes
Village
Aldehuela de Yeltes is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in Castile and León, part of the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo and the sub-comarca of Campo de Yeltes, within the plain of the Campo Charro; its municipal area, of 60.46 km², borders Castraz, Martín de Yeltes and El Maíllo, among others, and has 176 inhabitants. In the Middle Ages it was called Aldeyuela, the name from which the current one derives, and its founding dates back to the resettlement by the kings of León, placed within the Campo de Yeltes of the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo after its creation by Fernando II of León in the 12th century. It has two wetlands of ecological value through which many migratory birds pass: the Laguna del Cristo, beside the hermitage of the same name, and the Charca de la Cervera. Its economy rests mainly on the Iberian pig.
