Castraz
Village
Castraz is a municipality in the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, in the sub-comarca of the Campo de Yeltes, in the plain of the Campo Charro, province of Salamanca. Its territory groups together the localities of Castraz, El Cuarto, Pedraza de Yeltes and Sepúlveda, with 33 inhabitants in total, all today registered in Castraz, while the other settlements are depopulated. The dolmen of Sepúlveda, where ornamental objects were found, attests to human presence since Prehistory, although the founding of the localities dates back to the medieval repopulation by the kings of León, placed within the Campo de Yeltes of the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo, created in the 12th century by Ferdinand II of León. It preserves the Templar hermitage of the Virgen de la Vega, the tower of Pedraza de Yeltes and, in Castraz, the church of San Juan Bautista.
