What to see and do in Robleda

Robleda
Village
Robleda is a village in the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, in the El Rebollar sub-comarca, founded during the resettlement that the kings of León carried out in the area in the Middle Ages and placed in the 12th century, when it was called Robreda, in the diocese founded by Ferdinand II. With about 453 inhabitants, it is the only village in the whole province of Salamanca with street signs in two languages, Spanish and "palra d'El Rebollal", a variety of Leonese preserved there; its roads are also signposted in that speech. It preserves the church under the patronage of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora.

Nature
The rebollo or melojo, Quercus pyrenaica, covers these slopes of the southwest of Salamanca and gives its name to the subcomarca of El Rebollar. Robleda, whose place name means precisely oak wood, signposts its walking routes in the local tongue.

Curiosity
In the villages of El Rebollar a variety of Leonese is preserved with some four thousand speakers among residents and emigrants. Robleda is the only municipality of the province of Salamanca with its street signs in Leonese and Castilian.
