Casillas de Flores
Village
Casillas de Flores is a village in the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, in the Campo de Robledo, next to the Portuguese border and the Sierra de Gata, among oak groves and near the El Rebollar protected natural area. It was founded as a town by Alfonso VI of León in the late 11th century, and with the loss of the Ribacoa in 1297 it became a frontier. It preserves prehistoric remains, among them the dolmen of the Casa del Moro. In the 1960s the mining of uranium and tin nearby, now abandoned, came to double its population, which today stands at around 171 inhabitants. Its festivals are on August 15, in honor of San Mauro, and on May 3, for Santa Cruz.
