El Sahugo
Village
El Sahugo is a hamlet in the province of Salamanca, in the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo and the sub-comarca of Los Agadones, whose territory brings together the settlements of El Sahugo and Posadillas and covers close to 59 km². It arose from the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, under the name Saugo, and was placed within the Campo de Agadones of the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo, created in the 12th century by Ferdinand II of León. With the creation of the present-day provinces in 1833 it passed to the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region. In the mid-19th century it had 695 inhabitants, a figure that has kept falling to the current 178; in 2018 practically the whole population, 190 of 193 inhabitants, lived in the settlement of El Sahugo, with only 3 in Posadillas.
