Herguijuela de Ciudad Rodrigo
Village
Herguijuela de Ciudad Rodrigo is a hamlet of about 65 inhabitants made up of the settlements of Herguijuela and Cespedosa de Agadones, in the sub-comarca of Los Agadones, within the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, province of Salamanca. Its founding dates back to the resettlement carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, and it was placed within the Campo de Agadones of the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo, created by Fernando II of León in the 12th century, when it was called Elguijuela. Its name comes from the Latin ecclesiola, 'little church'. With the creation of the provinces in 1833 it passed to Salamanca and added 'de Ciudad Rodrigo' to avoid confusion with Herguijuela de la Sierra and Herguijuela del Campo. It preserves the church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves.
