Cabrillas
Village
Cabrillas is a village in the Salamanca comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, in the sub-comarca of Campo de Yeltes, within the plain of the Campo Charro, with about 316 inhabitants. It appears cited for the first time as «Cabrelas» in a document of Fernando II of León from December 1173, which fixed the boundary between the dioceses of Ciudad Rodrigo and Salamanca. Its origins may go back to the Vettones, although the earliest documented remains are Roman; the settlement was founded during the Leonese resettlement of the 11th and 12th centuries. At the end of the 14th century the lordship of Cabrillas was created, and in 1894 Alfonso XIII raised it to a county. During the Peninsular War French troops occupied and looted the village. It celebrates San Isidro on 15 May and San Antón on 17 January.
