What to see and do in Morille

Morille
Village
Morille is a municipality of around 221 inhabitants in the Campo de Salamanca, which in the Middle Ages, during the resettlement led by the kings of León, was called Moriel. Its district, also made up of the settlements of Monte Abajo and La Regañada, lies near the Ruta de la Plata motorway, though poorly served by narrow roads. In the 1950s its mines were opened, known as Mina Alegría, closed in the 1980s during industrial restructuring. Today it preserves the parish church of El Salvador and has an art cemetery and the CEVMO, a centre for the promotion and study of the Vía de la Plata and the Viaje.
Art Cemetery of Morille
Curiosity
An artistic project that buries works of art in a symbolic graveyard raised on the outskirts of the village, an unusual initiative that has turned this settlement of a hundred-odd residents into a reference point for rural contemporary art.

Historical milestone
The opening of the Mina Alegría in Morille in the 1950s gave work to much of the village until industrial restructuring closed it in the 1980s, leaving Morille without the only alternative it had to dryland farming.
