Beleña
Village
Beleña, in the Salamancan comarca of Tierra de Alba, groups together about 258 inhabitants spread across the hamlets of Beleña, La Matilla, Mataseca, Sanchotuerto and Sayaguente, on a flat plateau dotted with small hills such as Las Guijas and Las Cuatro Rayas, with very cold winters and mild summers. Documented as Belena during the medieval Leonese resettlement, it was included in the cuarto de Allende el Río of the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes, within the Kingdom of León, and took its present name as early as the 15th century; in 1833 it passed to the province of Salamanca. Its residents live from cereal farming and from raising sheep, cattle and pigs. It celebrates San Antonio de Padua on 13 June.
