Miranda de Azán
Village
Miranda de Azán is a municipality in Salamanca province, in the Campo Charro, 11 km from the provincial capital, with around 451 inhabitants spread across several settlements, among them Aldeagallega and Torrecilla. It saw the passage of the Roman road that ran from Astúrica Augusta to Emerita Augusta: at the Alquería de Azán, where there was a settlement and a luxurious Roman villa occupied between the 1st and 4th centuries, and in other spots pottery, roof tiles and millstones have been found. Near Aldeagallega a flint halberd from the Copper Age was also found. The settlement was founded between the reigns of Ferdinand II and Alfonso IX of León, and the oldest document that mentions it, from 1190, is a donation to the Church.
